Inspire learning through play with playdough tools

Discover the magic of thoughtfully designed playdough tools that inspire creativity, support development, and invite slow, mindful play.

At Kinfolk Pantry, we believe in the beauty of slow, intentional play. The kind of play that allows little hands to explore, create, and connect with nature, their imagination, and the world around them, and at the heart of this kind of play? Playdough. It’s simple, sensory, and full of possibility.

What truly brings playdough to life are the tools, beautiful, thoughtfully designed pieces that encourage skill development, storytelling, and creative exploration. Today, we’re sharing some of our favourite playdough tools and the unique learning benefits each one brings to your child’s play journey.

Made for Earth-Friendly Play

Every Kinfolk Pantry tool is made right here in Australia from sustainable, plant-based PLA. We’ve thoughtfully chosen materials that are safe, durable, and kind to the planet, so that playtime supports both your child’s growth and your values.

We also recently transitioned to an all-PLA material (instead of our previous part-wood mix) to ensure more reliable quality and consistency in every piece.

Eco Cutter Sets: Build fine motor skills through storytelling

Our Eco Cutter Sets are designed to spark storytelling, imaginative thinking, and small world play. Whether it’s a mushroom from the fairy garden, a tiny turtle from our pond set, or a roaring dinosaur, each shape becomes a character in a child’s unfolding world.

Cutting and pressing also strengthens hand muscles and fine motor coordination, laying the foundations for future writing skills. Pair them with nature finds such as leaves, pebbles and petals for a beautiful mix of sensory and imaginative learning.

Playdough Stamp Sets: Encourage cause & effect, language & coordination

Our Playdough Stamp Sets offer rich sensory input through texture, shape, and pattern. As children press and lift the stamps, they explore cause and effect, pattern recognition, and begin to describe their creations, supporting early language and cognitive development.

Our Interchangeable Stamp Handles add another layer of learning. As little hands slide the tiles in and out of the stamp handle, they build fine motor control, hand strength, and coordination, all while choosing their own themes and expressions. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, independence, and skill-building.

Playdough Rollers: Promote calm coordination & hand strength

Rolling dough is a soothing, rhythmic activity that helps regulate the nervous system and develop bilateral coordination. Our rollers are perfectly sized for little hands and feature subtle patterns (like flowers or roads) that invite storytelling and fine motor engagement.

Using rollers strengthens the fingers and wrists, which is essential for pre-writing development and dexterity.

Eco Play Moulds: support sensory integration & open-ended exploration

Unlike cutters, our play moulds are made to be pressed and filled, not sliced. This invites multi-sensory exploration, kids can use mud, fizzing mixtures, playdough, or sand to create layered “pies,” potions, or nature treasures.

Perfect for loose parts play, mud kitchens, or messy sensory setups, these tools help children experiment with textures, pressure, and imaginative outcomes. They’re also ideal for supporting tactile regulation and sensory processing.

Eco Dough Extruder: Build Problem Solving & Creative Thinking

Our newest addition, the Eco Dough Extruder, is all about hands-on experimentation and playful problem-solving. As children squish dough through the tube, they explore resistance, shape, and texture.

They begin to ask: What happens if I twist the end? What if I layer colours? These questions support creative thinking, scientific inquiry, and planning skills, all disguised as fun!

The Benefits Of Eco-Friendly Toys

Discover why eco-friendly toys are safer for kids, better for the planet, and designed for creative, conscious play. Here’s what to look for—and how Kinfolk Pantry is leading the way.

Play with purpose. Discover how eco-friendly toys support curious minds, conscious play, and a cleaner planet—one beautiful moment at a time.

Welcome to the world of eco-friendly toys—where play meets purpose.

The problem with plastic toys

- Environmental impact: Most plastic toys are made from non-renewable petrochemicals and can take hundreds of years to break down.
- Toxic concerns: Some contain harmful chemicals like BPA, PVC, and phthalates—especially concerning for young children who explore with their mouths.
- Short lifespan: Often poorly made and easily broken, many plastic toys end up in landfill within months.

The Benefits of Eco-Friendly Toys

- Safe & non-toxic: Made from natural materials that are gentle on little hands and safe for curious mouths.
- Open-ended play: Often simpler by design, eco toys encourage creativity, problem-solving, and deeper engagement.
- Long-lasting: Thoughtfully designed to be durable and enjoyed for years of play. With proper care, our toys can last a long time—though, as they’re made from biodegradable materials, they may naturally break down over time if left in harsh conditions like water or sunlight.
- Earth-friendly: Designed with biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable materials—leaving a lighter footprint on the planet.

What Makes a Toy Truly Sustainable?

- Local manufacturing: Reduces transport emissions and supports your community.
- Natural, renewable materials: Think plant-based PLA, sustainably sourced wood, and compostable packaging.
- Thoughtful design: Toys that grow with your child or serve multiple play purposes.
- Minimal waste: Recyclable or reusable packaging, and production practices that prioritise low waste.
